Abstract: An asphalt-based shingle is formed with a substrate saturated with asphalt, an asphalt coating on the saturated substrate, and a top film bonded to the surface of the asphalt coating covering at least a portion of the shingle to be exposed when installed. The top film may be configured to mimic the appearance of traditional clay granules on the shingle or another shingle surface. More specifically, the top film is printed or coated with an image that mimics the appearance of a clay granule bed and is embossed, pressed, or molded to mimic the texture of a clay granule bed. The top film is UV resistant to protect the asphalt below from deterioration. An anti-stick film may be bonded to the back of the shingle to prevent shingles from sticking together when stacked into a bundle. A method of fabricating the shingle may include applying pre-fabricated film to the shingle substrate during shingle manufacturing or extruding a polymer film onto the substrate and subsequently printing and embossing the film during shingle manufacturing.

Bottom hole assembly for configuring between artificial lift systems
Patent No. 10883349

Inventor(s): Toby S. Pugh (Arlington, TX)
Assignee(s): WEATHERFORD TECHNOLOGY HOLDINGS, LLC (Houston, TX)
Law Firm: Blank Rome, LLP (2 non-local offices)
Application No., Date, Speed: 15712989 on 09/22/2017 (1201 days app to issue)

Abstract: A wellbore completion is configured for multiple forms of artificial lift. A downhole assembly on production tubing defines a production port communicating a throughbore with the wellbore annulus. A bypass, such as a snorkel or riser tube, on the assembly also communicates the throughbore between the packer and the production port with the annulus. A packer on the assembly seals in the annulus downhole of the production port and bypass. The assembly can then be configured for any selected artificial lift. To do this, at least one isolation (a sleeve insert, a sliding sleeve, a check valve, or a rupture disk) selectively prevents/allows communication via one or both of the production port and the bypass as needed. Additionally, removable lift equipment, including jet pump, gas lift valve, plunger assembly, rod pump, piston pump, or standing valve, is selectively inserted into the assembly”s throughbore as needed.

Patent No. 10886386

Inventor(s): Qing Liu (Watervliet, NY)
Assignee(s): STMICROELECTRONICS, INC. (Coppell, TX)
Law Firm: Seed IP Law Group LLP (1 non-local offices)
Application No., Date, Speed: 15806160 on 11/07/2017 (1155 days app to issue)

Abstract: A dual width SOI FinFET is disclosed in which different portions of a strained fin have different widths. A method of fabrication of such a dual width FinFET entails laterally recessing the strained fin in the source and drain regions using a wet chemical etching process so as to maintain a high degree of strain in the fin while trimming the widths of fin portions in the source and drain regions to less than 5 nm. The resulting FinFET features a wide portion of the fin in the channel region underneath the gate, and a narrower portion of the fin in the source and drain regions. An advantage of the narrower fin is that it can be more easily doped during the growth of the epitaxial raised source and drain regions.

Adaptive time slot allocation to reduce latency and power consumption in a time slotted channel hopping wireless communication network
Patent No. 10887214

Inventor(s): Ariton Xhafa (Plano, TX), Arvind Kandhalu Raghu (Plano, TX), Ramanuja E. Vedantham (Allen, TX)
Assignee(s): Texas Instruments Incorporated (Dallas, TX)
Law Firm: No Counsel
Application No., Date, Speed: 16205368 on 11/30/2018 (767 days app to issue)

Abstract: Excessive latencies and power consumption are avoided when a large number of leaf nodes (LNs) contend simultaneously to join a time slotted channel hopping wireless communication network having a root node (RN) interfaced to LNs by one or more intermediate nodes (INs). A first plurality of shared transmit/receive slots (STRSs) is allocated for at least one IN, and a second plurality of STRSs is advertised for use by contending LNs, where the first plurality is larger than the second plurality. When a LN joins, its STRSs are re-defined such that most become shared transmit-only slots (STOSs) and no STRSs remain. The numbers of STRSs allocated to INs may vary inversely with their hop counts from the RN. One or more STOSs may be added for each of one or more INs in response to a predetermined network condition.

Dynamic resource allocation for sensor devices on a cellular network
Patent No. 10887247

Inventor(s): Venkata S. Amulothu (Plano, TX)
Assignee(s): International Business Machines Corporation (Armonk, NY)
Law Firm: Schmeiser, Olsen Watts (6 non-local offices)
Application No., Date, Speed: 16585825 on 09/27/2019 (466 days app to issue)

Abstract: A method and associated systems for on-demand cellular-network bandwidth allocation in response to continuously changing populations of sensor devices. A sensor device adds itself to or deletes itself from a cluster of sensors. A physical controller that manages the cluster detects this change, identifies a resulting change in the cluster”s bandwidth requirements, and stores this information in a local database. When such a sensor-population change satisfies a triggering condition, the controller requests that a network-management component of the cellular network adjust the controller”s bandwidth allocation. The network-management component aggregates this and similar requests from all connected controllers in a global database, and when controller bandwidth requirements satisfy a second triggering condition, the component, using a standard API, asks the network-management component to reprovision the component”s virtual bandwidth allocation. The component then distributes the adjusted bandwidth among its sensor-cluster controllers, which in turn allocate their adjusted bandwidths among their sensor devices.

In particular, the master device may aggregate UE identifiers (UE_IDs) for UEs in the group, and send an identity message carrying the UE_IDs and a master device identifier (MD_ID) to a base station, which may then relay the identity message to a Security Anchor Node (SeAN). The SeAN may send an authentication data request carrying the UE_IDs and MD_ID to a Home Subscriber Server (HSS), which may return an authentication data response that includes a group authentication information. The group authentication information may then be used to achieve mutual authentication between the SeAN and each of the master device, group of UEs, and individual UEs.

Law Firm: Fish Richardson P.C. (Local + 13 other metros)
Application No., Date, Speed: 16218191 on 12/12/2018 (755 days app to issue)

Abstract: Techniques are described for client registration for authorizing an aggregator service to access data on behalf of an application, through self-registration of an application client identifier and issuance of authorization token(s) based on the application client identifier. Implementations provide a technique for dynamic client registration that avoids the need for manual vetting and manual generation of the client credential grant. Additionally, the implementations described herein enforce domain values around the scope and/or purpose of the client grant. This allows for support of application providers through a single point of registration that supports multi-layer and channel. This also allows for support of a scalable authorization solution for any suitable number of clients. The dynamic client registration process adds an additional layer of security through the OAuth client grant and mutual authentication.

Method and system for application-based access control using network slicing
Patent No. 10887825

Inventor(s): Sudhakar Reddy Patil (Flower Mound, TX)
Assignee(s): Verizon Patent and Licensing Inc. (Basking Ridge, NJ)
Law Firm: No Counsel
Application No., Date, Speed: 16400349 on 05/01/2019 (615 days app to issue)

Abstract: A method, a device, and a non-transitory storage medium are described in which an application-based access control service is provided. The service assigns network slice priority values to network slices that are associated with an application or a portion of an application pertaining to end devices. The service calculates a network slice priority value to manage access barring based on a congestion level, and transmits the network slice priority value to end devices. End devices may determine whether access is permitted or not based on the network slice priority value and the assigned network slice priority values associated with the network slices. The service further provides access barring information to network devices of an access network that allows the network devices to reject connection requests and release existing connections. The access barring information may include a network slice priority value and/or network slice identifiers.
