The company has so far rolled out commercial power bank rental charging stations across 8,000 locations in 11 cities throughout India.
“Further, our aim is by FY24, 50 lakh power banks should be available in the market across 5 lakh locations. We believe that the success of our business strongly depends on the easy availability and accessibility of our charging station and hence, we aim to install Spykke charging stations at every 200 meters,” Iyer told ET.
The service is deployed in metro stations, malls, airports, railway stations, corporate offices, tech-parks, hotels, universities, and hospitals where a customer can pay per hour for renting a power bank and drop it to the nearest Spykke outlet.
“In a vast country like India, with a 40 crore plus smartphone user base, and the highest consumption of data in the world at 12GB per month and a huge potential thereof, we have so far lacked a public charging ecosystem that meets the rising demand for charging-on-the-go, and that is what we have tried to establish with Spykke,” Iyer said.
The service which has crossed 1 million transactions is currently live across Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Coimbatore, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Jaipur, and Pune and four more cities will be added in the next few months.
The company has zeroed in on two-three original equipment manufacturers in India for 100% local sourcing of its products, he added.
The standard usage charge is Rs 20/hour, while subscription plans can go up to Rs 1999 for unlimited swaps and has partnered with retail outlets like Café Coffee Day, Toni & Guy, PVR etc. Besides the rental model, Spykke also leverages the advertising opportunity where brands can advertise on Spykke stations and power banks across their partner outlets.
